Altoona Methodist Church
From the Pastors Desk
As we look forward this week to Pentecost Sunday, we remember that Pentecost is often called “the birthday of the Church.”
As we hear in Holy Scripture, today is the day that the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus’ followers, and with that Jesus’ mission on earth was completed.
Jesus calls all of us to be missionaries. The Latin root word for “missionary” is derived from the original Greek word "Apostolos", which meant “one sent forth.” we also get the word “apostle” from that as well.
As we enter Pentecost we should always remember when Jesus spoke these words, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” That includes each one of us!.
We, too, are sent, Many times, we have been reminded that being sent means that we live out our faith in everything we do. That is the best way to evangelize, to let those around us see and know what it means to be a Christian disciple and a follower of Jesus Christ.
Because today is the day that we as a Church remember and celebrate Pentecost, the day in history when the Holy Spirit descended as if flames of fire on the heads of the disciples in Jerusalem, after Jesus had ascended to heaven.
Let us always remember from this day forward, because of His great sacrifice we will never be alone because we have the Holy spirit.
